About Knoxville Aikikai
Welcome to the Knoxville Aikido Center website. Our instructor, Rob Crowell Sensei, has maintained a traditional, Japanese martial arts dojo since 1993, where the principles of aikido are learned by adherence to the techniques and etiquette given to him by his instructor(s), chiefly: Akira Tohei Sensei. Tohei Sensei, at the time of his death, was the highest ranking practitioner of aikido in the U.S. In following Tohei Sensei’s wishes, we maintain an organization that does not make a profit and Rob charges no fee for his instruction. Most classes are taught by Crowell Sensei, occasionally being taught instead by a senior student.
The Knoxville Aikido Center is where the Knoxville Aikikai group (aikikai, those who train in aikido) practices. The Knoxville Aikikai is affiliated with the United States Aikido Federation and Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan. Our practice takes place in the South Knoxville Community Center and our monthly fee going solely to rent of this Knoxville City facility is $50/month. Family of members and city employees fees are $25/month.
